Star set to walk over staggering sequel salary

Robbie is demanding a massive raise for Barbie 2, per a source who says Gosling wants $20M

Barbie star Margot Robbie, who made a staggering $50 million from the 2023 blockbuster, has rejected the multimillion-dollar salary studio execs are offering her for the sequel.

Warner Bros. Discovery, the studio behind the film, has reportedly been negotiating with the core Barbie creative team: Margot, costar Ryan Gosling, director-screenwriter Greta Gerwig and her husband, Noah Baumbach, who cowrote the script.

The studio has made the team more than six offers in the past three years, which have all been turned down.

But CEO David Zaslav has refused to pony up any more to pay the stars and filmmakers the salaries they are demanding — Ryan is reportedly asking for $20 million — even though the latest offer was the studio’s “highest ever.”

Meanwhile, many industry sources are saying Margot, Ryan, Greta and Noah’s massive pay demands are justifiable because Barbie grossed $1.4 billion, making it Warner Bros.’ most successful release ever.

Greta reportedly made “tens of millions of dollars” for directing.

But with negotiations hitting a dead end, Barbie 2 may stay forever in its box, never to be played with.

The studio only has about four months to get rolling on a sequel or the rights will revert to Mattel, which makes the iconic doll.

If that happens, Warner Bros. won’t be permitted to use anything from the original film for a sequel and will need to do a full reboot of the movie.

Tragic songbird Whitney Houston is being honored with her own Barbie doll!

The collectible celebrates the legacy of the late I Will Always Love You singer, who would have turned 63 on Aug. 9.

The project was decades in the making, according to the singer’s sister-in-law Pat Houston, who’s the executor of her estate.

“I’m just really happy that we’re seeing this doll come to fruition,” Pat says, adding that she and Whitney had talked about doing a Mattel doll 20 years ago.

Whitney, who drowned in her bathtub in 2012 at age 48, wanted to do a doll that paid homage to her 1992 film The Bodyguard, but the project fell through.

Instead, the newly released Whitney Barbie was inspired by the 1987 I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) music video.

According to Pat, who’s married to Whitney’s older brother Gary, “I’m just very grateful to have been a part of a project that honors her artistry, her elegance and her impact that she still has on the world.”
